The newspaper "Yerevan University" of YSU celebrates its 95th anniversary this year. Jubilee event devoted to the activities of newspaper took place in the hall of the Academic Council of Yerevan State University on December 25.  The welcoming speech was delivered by YSU Rector, corresponding member of NAS RA, Professor Aram Simonyan. "I heartily congratulate all of us on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the newspaper, "Yerevan University". I would like to note that the newspaper was first published on January 31, 1920, i. e. on the opening day of the University, and since then it reflects the scientific and educational life of the university. It became a part of students’ life with its old and distinctive style. The newspaper "Yerevan University" has always been the official body of the Academic Council, part of the university management system. Today the newspaper belongs to the students. Congratulations to all former and current staff, correspondents and newspaper editors. By your efforts and great diligence we have preserved the newspaper, which reflects the scientific life of the intellectuals,"-said A. Simonyan.

Vladimir Maghalyan, the former editor of "Yerevan University" spoke on editorial activities of the newspaper, expressed his gratitude and congratulated all those, who contributed to the publication of the newspaper. "I congratulate all of you on the occasion of the 95th anniversary and would like to mention the fact that in addition to disseminating information, the newspaper is also of cultural value. This newspaper is a chronology of history of our University. I devoted all my life to it. In the 90s, when the country was in chaos, it was very hard to publish it. However, we have spared no effort to keep publishing it. I am pleased that the newspaper continued its work and I hope that in future, it will play a big role in the lives of students, "- said V. Maghalyan. 

Head of the department of Public Relations and Information of RA Ministry of Education and Science, Arthur Baghdasaryan congratulated the staff of the newspaper and the university on behalf of the Minister Armen Ashotyan and on the occasion of the anniversary awarded gold medal of the Ministry of Education and Science to the chief editor of the newspaper, Gegham Melikbekyan. Aram Simonyan, in his turn, handed thank-you-notes to the chief editor Gegham Melikbekyan, head of YSU information department and public relations, executive secretary of the newspaper Lilit Azatyan, a journalist Varduhi Zakaryan, Tsovinar Karapetyan, Hovhannes Vardanyan, the photographer Talita Baghdasaryan, a computer designer Karine Chalabyan. 

Vice-Rector of Yerevan State University, Ruben Melkonyan presented a number of subtleties associated with the publication of the newspaper, then congratulated the whole staff on this occasion. "This newspaper has a very important function: it presents many inter-university  issues, as well as a variety of events. This is a unique platform that contributes to the self- expression of our students, "- said Markosyan.

 Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Nagash Martirosyan, Dean of the Faculty of History Edik Minasyan, Associate Professor of the chair of History of the Armenian literature, Khachatur Vardanyan delivered their speeches and congratulated YSU staff and editorial of the newspaper.
